Coronation Street and Emmerdale go from strength to strength and it’s time to do something drastic. BBC A disaster episode in the autumn is the perfect time to relaunch the show. BBC Not everyone has to arrive with a mysterious secret – but it helps. Just decent kitchen sink drama with viewers being given the chance to embrace them all and go through the emotions with them.
BBC Soaps are at their best when they reflect the viewers that watch them, and EastEnders is struggling in this department. There are rich business people, and there are struggling unskilled workers. The teachers, the doctors, the nurses, the bread and butter of soapland seem to be missing. Time to bring them in. This show is a mess. John Yorke has his work cut out. How many times has this storyline played out? In either case, it didn’t end well, and neither will this one. The biggest problem with this storyline is that, utlimately, Steven is supposed to be the baddie, Abi his useful idiot, whom he’ll discard at the appropriate moment, and Lauren the victim. Except this is the first time we’ve had a story of this magnitude where absolutely everyone was unsympathetic. The original time this storyline played out, with Angie and Den, the two main characters were so nuanced and so complex, you actually felt sympathy for Angie in doing what she did, in a desperate measure to keep her marriage intact.
Yet, you felt for Den, who remained in the marriage for the sake of their child, whilst the marriage, itself, morphed into a toxic cancer of dysfunctionality. However, you felt for him in that he deserved a stab at happiness. There are no such complicated attitudes toward this trio of entitled, but Steven is undoubtedly the most complex of the three.
He has mental health issues, and he’s had breakdowns in the past. When he first arrived in Walford ten years ago, when Ian had him sectioned after his kidnapping and his shooting of Jane, he confessed to Ian that he had been receiving counselling and had had a breakdown as a teenager in New Zealand. The year-old actor has decided to bow out of the show as the lovable Johnny Carter next year seen with Danny Dyer A source said recently of Harry’s shock exit: He will star in a big storyline before the end of the year and be written out of the show as a result.
This the latest blow to the Carter clan – who have been the focus of many storylines on the soap this year – as they’ve had to deal with Linda Kellie Bright being diagnosed with cancer, which led to her and her husband Mick Danny Dyer breaking up over the lies and secrets, and losing the beloved Queen Vic pub in a blackmail plot.
Earlier this month, the Willmot-Brown family revealed they own the famous pub, and handed the Carter family an eviction notice for the Queen Vic. Mick then risked everything to protect his precious establishment by teaming up with mystery newcomer Aidan Maguire. The landlord risked being thrown in prison to save his pub with Aidan’s help – however the solution is believed to come with dire consequences over the festive season.
